ABOUT ME

PERSONAL BACKGROUND

I grew up in Hollandscheveld in Drenthe. I still live in the very same house, along with my parents, sisters and dog Chica. From a young age, I have always been someone who thinks deeply and carefully observes people and situations around me.

I enjoy understanding how things work, solving problems and finding practical solutions. I can be somewhat introverted at first, but once I feel comfortable, I become much more communicative and open within teams.

MY EDUCATIONAL JOURNEY

After finishing VWO, I briefly started studying Law at the University of Groningen. However, I quickly realized that this direction did not fit my personality or interests.

In 2022, I started the Bachelor Hospitality Management program at NHL Stenden. During this year, I gained practical experience in different hospitality departments such as kitchen, restaurant, housekeeping and bar operations.

Later, I switched to the Associate Degree program because I discovered that I learn best through practical experience and direct professional development.

CHALLENGES AND GROWTH

During my studies, I experienced a difficult personal period that strongly influenced my motivation and confidence. At that time, I struggled with stress, uncertainty and balancing expectations.

However, this period also became an important turning point in my personal development. I learned how important self-awareness, communication and setting boundaries are.

Over the years, I became more confident, more structured and more independent. I learned how to work professionally under pressure, communicate more clearly and take responsibility within teams and leadership situations.

LESSONS I LEARNED

Some of the most important lessons I learned during my studies are:

  • Growth often happens outside your comfort zone
  • Communication is one of the most important skills within hospitality
  • Leadership is not about authority, but about helping people perform well
  • Mistakes can become valuable learning moments
  • Confidence develops through experience and reflection
